Highland Landscape

My latest large canvas ... These were not the colors I originally intended... yet try as I may... the piece kept coming back to this palette... Strange!

6'x3' Acrylic on Gallery Canvas with light tetured foreground...

Lighthouse at Night (sold)

The desire to recycle an old, rather handsome, wooden frame prompted this work!

I plastered a rough wooden board (28"x16"), slowly building up color and texture that ultimately dictated the subject proportion/light/tone - The lighthouse shows again a whimsical urge to repeat favourite themes/moods!

I found an old canvas circa 2006 in the studio this week, one of my first attempts to use texture on canvas ...I decided to have another go at getting the piece to work... Finally something to show!

I guess it there is truth in the saying that some pieces defy completion until the time is right... much like so much else in life...

Lighthouse in the Mist

My very first paintings depicted tons of lighthouses... A childhood fascination that has never waned. This piece is a lighter blue than the photo shows... I was looking to capture the sun reappearing after a storm!

Grey Sea Wreck

This piece is a a color experiment for a larger commission...  Oftentimes achieving a client's vison colorwise can be challenging! Let's see if this is a go! That said, I love the pristine/uncluttered mood of this scene -- The work echoes my other wreck scenes that depict naturing reclaiming man made pollution. In real life the white sea glare is less pronounced...  and the overall feel is grey with a touch of sandy brown! The 3rd photo is the most realistic! (sold)

New Greek Village Series

My village scenes consist of plaster/sand mix on canvas, with the usual acrylic finish... These pieces have always sold well... I miss the simplicity of the Greek way of life...so recently completed a few more paintings...

Misty Greek Village was painted in 2011, but never completed to my satisfaction... I touched up the coloring yesterday and am pleased with the final result!

The blue depicted in the lighter colored pieces has rather a light teal/grey than blue hue in real life... The night scene looks pretty much as depicted inthe photo!

Have at last time to paint again... a new piece Blue Shipwreck 40"x30" (multi-media/acrylic on canvas) is a toned down version of the usually turbulent skies I usually enjoy painting...

Dead Sea Sentinel 30"x40" (multi-media/acrylic on canvas) is a retouched earlier work that I thought lacked life... it now has more vibrant earthy/orange hues...

Interesting Fountains

2 stone fountains inspired by kurkar rocks picked up on the eastern Mediterranean shore... Kurkar is the sediment left behind post the Thira/Santorini tsunami/earthquake thousands of years ago... The bowls are made from hypertufa to give an authentic feel.

Customized orders accepted (limited stone supply)

The green glass table fountain was made from broken blocks of green glass found in an Ottawa building scrapyard... The bowl was picked up by chance in a thriftstore!

Acrylic/Multi-Media on Canvas 49”x37”  (Hockey stick protrusion 68”x43”)

An energy footprint of a young hockey player flushed with a sense of victory as the winning goal is scored!
The piece is more about what is not depicted… An image of absence ...!

Rather than cut the hockey stick to fit the canvas, I decided that it would be interesting to have the stick extend beyond the canvas limits...

Recycled items:
Canvas on wooden frame
Cotton bed-sheet
Don Mills/Jr. Flyer Hockey Sweater
Hockey stick
Hockey gloves
Helmet

Commissions accepted!
